December 2007 Memo to Members

In this memo:

1. LOPSA welcomes first Platinum sponsor
2. LOPSA Jobs Board
3. Public Policy Committee
4. LISA Community Meeting Notes
5. IRC Channel Changes: Stay Tuned
6. Sponsor Thank-yous

1. LOPSA welcomes Dasher Technologies, first Platinum sponsor

Dasher Technologies has recently agreed to become the very first
LOPSA Platinum sponsor! Their generosity has given a significant
boost to LOPSA's financial outlook, and we're immensely grateful for
their support.

Dasher Technologies is an enterprise IT reseller offering a wide
range of computing infrastructure solutions. They provide HP rack
and blade servers, storage, networking, workstations, and software,
along with many complementary software solutions. Dasher is the #3
provider of HP blade servers in the US and #1 in Northern California.

Visit www.dashertechnologies.com for more information, and tell
them LOPSA sent you!

2. LOPSA Jobs Board

If you haven't browsed the LOPSA Jobs Board recently, please take a
look. LOPSA's Jobs Board is a good way of filtering through and
getting either postings or applicants that you actually want, from
a select audience, rather than the typical auto-generated churn
that a lot of other sites feature.

The LOPSA jobs board is up at

http://careers.lopsa.org

3. Notes from the Public Policy BoF

The Public Policy committee had a working BoF at LISA that made
some good progress towards having giving LOPSA a voice on public
policy issues. The committee and interested participants created
a basic outline for the aims, operation and functioning of the
committee. The chair, Tom Limoncelli, reports that the meeting
went very well, featuring a lot of productive discussion.

Public policy is a vastly important field to sysadmins, but also
a potentially divisive topic if not given proper attention and
effort. If you're interested in helping out or participating,
please contact Tom at tal at whatexit dot org.

4. LISA Community Meeting notes

Trey Harris is in the midst of taping the talk he gave for the LOPSA
Community Meeting at LISA; for those of you who could not attend, watch
our website and you'll be able to download the audio and slides from
the presentation soon.

Thanks to all who did attend the meeting, and let us know if you have
any feedback or suggestions.

5. IRC Channel Changes

Our current hosts for the IRC channel #lopsa are getting out
of the IRC business, so there will be changes afoot for IRC services
from LOPSA. Please stay tuned for more info; we're trying to make
sure the changes aren't too traumatic for anyone involved.

If you haven't looked at the IRC channel, it's a good forum for
general discussion and on the spot technical help. Join #lopsa on
irc.lopsa.org to check it out.

6. Thanks to all of our LOPSA sponsors!

We'd like to thank our sponsors:

business and technical challenges of each client we serve.

as it happens, your memo editor is a recent and very satisifed customer
of both Advistor and Silicon Mechanics. So please check them out if
you're in the market for the kinds of things they specialize in, and
mention LOPSA when you do.

And of course, this message, our website and all our online content is
brought to you by BitPusher, our Gold Corporate Sponsor. BitPusher is
the San Francisco Bay Area's premier provider of managed information
technology services for small and medium-sized businesses. We thank
them for their continued, high level of professional support.
