1 YAPC:NA Call for Proposals

LOPSA is teaming up with the Chicago Perl Mongers to help make this year's Yet
Another Perl Conference North America (YAPC::NA) better than ever.

YAPC::NA will take place June 16th-18th in Chicago, IL. We're extending a
special call for proposals to you. Many LOPSA members are exceptional Perl
programmers, using Perl daily and managing large Perl installations. If you
have special insights, tricks, new ideas or a gift for gab, submit your
proposal now to deliver a talk at YAPC:NA.

This is a great opportunity for LOPSA and its members to present a system
administration perspective on Perl to some of the people at the center of the
Perl world.

YAPC::NA is currently accepting proposals for 20, 45, 70, and 95 minute talks,
and for longer hands-on workshops. The talks and workshops can be directed at
any level of Perl programmer, user, or system administrator.

To tender your proposal for a talk, visit http://yapc.org/America and create an
account. You may also send your proposals to education@LOPSA.org. If you are
interested in leading a workshop, please contact Joshua McAdams directly at
joshua.mcadams@gmail.com.

LOPSA has secured an extended submission deadline of 4 April 2008 for its
members.

If you're accepted to speak at YAPC::NA as a member of LOPSA, we'll provide you
with a LOPSA t-shirt and plenty of good press in our official communiques.
YAPC::NA will waive their attendance fees. The LOPSA Education Committee is
also happy to help presenters prepare, proofread, and organize their talks.
We're also happy to help finish cooking some half-baked ideas you might be
tossing around; if you have any ideas at all, feel free to run them by us.

2 Call for Volunteers: LugRadio Live USA 2008 in San Francisco

LOPSA has the opportunity to hold a booth at LugRadio Live USA 2008, on
April 12-13th at San Francisco's Metreon.

LugRadio is an event that has developed a strong reputation for providing
a range of topics about free software, Open Source, digital rights,
technology and more. They feature a compelling list of speakers,
exhibitors and birds of a feather sessions. They wrap it all in a
unique, fun, loose, social and inclusive event, which is often
described as combining the atmosphere of a rock concert and a computer
conference.

See more at http://lugradio.org/live/USA2008/

We'd love to have the LOPSA banner there. But we need your help! We're
looking for both leaders and helpers for a LOPSA booth at the conference.
You'd just need to hand out flyers, talk to people interested in LOPSA,
and tell folks what we're about. You don't necessarily have to commit
for the entire conference; we can use help from folks who have a variety
of time availability. And don't think you need to have done this before
or even need to know a lot about how to pitch LOPSA; we'll brief you!

Please contact crossbow@lopsa.org if you're interested.

3 LOPSA Live IRC Chat on 4/10

LOPSA Live is a chance for members of LOPSA to interact directly
with members of the Board. You can ask questions, make suggestions
and give feedback in a smaller, "focus group" online chat.

Join us on IRC in the channel #lopsa-live at irc.lopsa.org from
3-4 EDT on Thursday, April 10th to talk about anything and
everything LOPSA.

Note the different time: we move the timing around to ensure
that people with scheduling conflicts will be able to participate
eventually.

Please let us know if you have questions about LOPSA Live.

4 Privacy Settings

We figured it'd be good to remind people of how to set up their
privacy settings in the wake of the postcards that were mailed in
error, and address one possible confusion.

The LOPSA privacy policy is at http://lopsa.org/privacy.

One note, however. The "My notify settings" tab under your Account
Settings is a Drupal-specific setting that sends email when we
update the LOPSA website. It doesn't affect third-party mails,
the Memo to Members, or other mailings. To change those settings,
first click the "edit" tab, and then the "Privacy" sub-tab, and
then select the "No contact from partners and sponsors" checkbox.
