In 2001, Epic began detailed design work for a new data center to be
constructed within its Verona campus. In August 2004, construction had
begun. During the intervening three years, Epic's growth had
accelerated, resulting in a data center design that simply would not
accommodate the upcoming needs. Construction was frozen and we set out
to design a data center that would handle the company's future growth.
The problem was that we had no way of knowing how much future growth we
would need to accommodate, so some creative planning had to be
incorporated.
