give-n-take presention on perl 1-liner sysadmin reports

Chan Wilson, General Specialist, Info Tech, Meadowlark Networking

Perl holds many cornerstones in our Internet infrastructure, but from the beginning perl has been the _Practical Extraction and Report Language_. Numerous features of perl make it trivial to create "one line reports" that can summarize desired details quickly out of opaque logfiles. Need a report on mail sent offsite in the last week? Usage of your DNS server, summarized in realtime? A group report from LDAP?

This presentation will detail numerous "ad-hoc" 1-line reports written (and found) by the author for network and systems administration over the years. Tips, tricks, and techniques will be discussed. Bring your favorite perl 1-liners to share and dissect!

Chan has been doing systems and network administration for so long the pegs are amorphous and can fit into any hole. His perl exposure started with perl4 and continues to this day.
