Candidate Statement: Jesse TrucksAs a current member of the LOPSA Board of Directors and a LOPSA Founding Member, I am seeking re-election to continue my work in helping LOPSA be a great member-driven and community-focused organization. Our membership, our colleagues, and our communities and organizations both need and deserve a better, stronger professional association to support system administrators and the people who rely on the systems the sysadmins manage for them. A strong LOPSA allows for better sharing of knowledge, including fundamentals of system and networking technologies, best practices, security issues, and more through informal networking via the mailing lists, IRC channels, and the like as well as formal channels such as the local chapter events and training classes offered throughout the year in various venues. My goals as a Director for LOPSA are to focus on furthering our fulfillment of the mission, encourage networking amongst the membership and our peers, and grow our member base. The most important goal, however, is to improve the governance process to more effectively utilize volunteer and staff resources and increase timely and effective transparency in operational efforts and communication with the membership and community at large. I have twelve years of experience in system administration in a wide variety of organizations and platforms, including my current role where I perform certain duties of facilities, logistics, and inventory management in addition to my regular duties as part of a team managing multiple large-scale HPC clusters and the production installation process and system management of supercomputers. My perspective of working with wonderful mentors and being the best mentor I can to others in our profession combined with the technical and professional experience I gained in my variety of work experience lends itself well to my ability to understand how we, as system administrators, need supporting and how we can communicate our needs within our own ranks and the community at large that we support and interact with. If I am voted to a second term on the LOPSA Board of Directors, I will continue my open door policy for anyone to bring questions, comments, ideas, or anything else to me regarding our work, both technical and professional. I strive to share my experiences and knowledge with others. I hope not only that you will share your knowledge with me, but that you will give me the chance for me to leverage both yours and my experiences to improve both LOPSA and the profession of system administration together. Please vote for me. A vote for me is a vote for you, your profession, and your professional association. 1989 reads
