[lopsa-discuss] Note: WiPs at LISA'05

There used to be a rule (maybe it was a guideline) that WiP
presentors were limited to 1 slide. Since that rule (guideline) has
been removed, we occasionally we see people bring 50 slides and are
surprised to discover they don't get through them all in their 5
minutes.
In my day, we had to walk up hill both ways through 5' of snow even
in the summer. And we liked it. But more importantly, mister "I'm
only 37, I can't be an old-timer" would like to remind people that
that some of his favorite WiPs have been with a single slide.
I think three slides is more than enough.
Don't waste you time explaining how to compile and install it, don't
spend a lot of time on background. Just say what problem you
solved. That generally takes 5 minutes. If people want to know
more, they'll corner you at the next break.
My 3-slide formula:
1. There is a problem. Example: Doesn't it suck that "at jobs"
can't run kerberized utilities because "at" processes aren't started
by the real user?
2. We have a solution: Example: We've invented "kat", the
kerberized "at" daemon. It's amazing. The syntax is blah blah blah.
3. How did we do it? Example: When you submit the "kat" job you
have to be authenticated with kerberos. We then keep the ticket alive
by renewing it every n minutes until it is time to actually run the
task. Then we can initiate the task.
That's it!
Tom
P.S. The example comes from a WiP that honey did many years ago.
I'm sure I got 80% wrong. My apologizes. It was, however, a great
WiP. However, I don't know anything about kerberos so don't believe
anything I say.
