Hey aren't you at the conference :) Tom's book will be available in the
Vendor Booth for O'Reilly. Not only can you pick up the book, but you can
pick up a signed copy!

I think the book idea is a great one.. if people are up in the bay area,
and can commit to actually reviewing the book, I can actually arrange to
get books from the publisher sent out. (for free) (Other local usergroups
who don't already get this benefit from the publishers let me know, and
I'll hook you up with the appropriate individuals.)

Maybe different areas can do different books, and then we can swap out
books? Or connect with libraries and have a dedicated shelf to the books?

So now .. finding time to read it. How much time do you spend in the
bathroom, in travel, or standng/sitting in line waiting to do something?
Many days I'll sit with a book in hand when I'm eatting lunch, feeding my
brain at the same time as my stomach. I know, I know you aren't supposed
to read when you eat, but I enjoy it. (I think if I ever got into some
kind of trouble that lead to incarceration, that I wouldn't care about the
food.. what would drive me crazy is if there wasn't enough to read.)

One solution is if you have a portable device of some type that allows you
to read pdfs, get a subscription to safari, download a chapter at a time,
and read it at your whim.

LOPSA should set up as a safari affiliate. then everyone interested in
this who doesn't already have a safari account can join up and get bonuses
for LOPSA. Additionally, at some point if LOPSA gets big enough, that
might be a nice member benefit. Arrange a partnership with Safari to give
members book access.

OK. back to conference :)

Jennifer
