I personally only ever listen to the audio portion of things like
this even when slides are available - mostly because when I have time
to listen, I am doing something that demands my eyes be elsewhere:
driving, mowing the lawn, clearing snow off the driveway, vacuuming,
etc. So all I hope for is that there's an audio-only format that my
iPod will play (mp3 is perfect).

But on the subject of slides, IMO, multipage PDF is the best format
to offer. It's much more platform-independent than Powerpoint or
Keynote. Doing a video file with the audio synced to the slides is a
lot of work for whoever has to generate that file and I don't believe
it brings a whole lot of value over simply offering an audio file and
a PDF of slides. The kind of people who can manage life as a sysadmin
are probably going to be able to work out when to move to the next
slide without a huge amount of trouble. And I bet a lot of people are
like me and will do audio-only anyway.
