FWIW, the Cisco VPN client we use works pretty well
for Windows, Linux and MacOSX. Interestingly, the
non-Windows version are one rev ahead of the Windows
client.
Full Disclosure: It is true that when the VPN server
software gets upgraded, it almost always requires the
client software to get upgraded soon thereafter.
Especially for MacOSX clients. But this hasn't been a
big deal when enough notice was given. IIRC, we have
upgraded about once a year.
