Folks,
In accordance with the recent guidance, I will post this here.
I found out from a friend of mine that the folks at BitKeeper
have a number of job openings, including some operations-related. I
looked at the entry at <http://www.bitkeeper.com/Jobs.Systems.html>,
and it seemed to be a pretty decent fit for me, save a few minor
problems:
1. I officially live in Belgium for another few months, and
my wife and I will be moving to Austin, TX afterwards.
However, the job is in the San Francisco Bay Area, and
they don't allow any form of telecommuting that I know of.
2. I've done some Bourne shell scripting, but I'm not sure I'd
consider myself to be an "expert" in this field.
3. I've done some C programming in the past, but I'm not sure
I'd be competent to write a simple replacement for more(1).
4. I'm not strong on Microsoft environments, although I figure
I could probably muddle through.
Anyway, if anyone else is interested in this job, or any of the
others that BitKeeper has listed, please make sure that you tell your
contact that you heard about them from Harlan Stenn. Harlan told me
about them, and he is also a friend of Larry McVoy. I'd like to make
sure that credit is given where it is due, and mentioning Harlan's
name should help improve the applicants chances of at least making it
through the first round.
On the flip side, I will be soon looking in earnest for
employment in the Austin, TX area -- I have not yet found anything
that looked really suitable through LinkedIn Jobs, but I will keep
looking there and elsewhere. But if you have any pointers, including
references to good recruiters down there, I would appreciate your
letting me know.
Oh, and Happy Leap Second, and Merry New Year!
