If I know Adam's previous views at all (and he's more than welcome to
correct me on them), I think he was trying to get at a slightly
different thing here. All of the items you listed were potential
reasons why a regional group might want to affiliate, at some level
with LOPSA. I think Adam was more concerned with what he, as someone
presenting LOPSA to individual people, might tell those *individuals*
as reasons they would want to join LOPSA. Which is to say: for example
that the SAGE short topics booklets were a good individual member perk,
but something different from mailing list hosting, which would be a
good regional group perk.
This does verge slightly on going off topic for the regional project
list, but I do think it bears consideration, if only in the sense that
the discussion is concerning how we can, as representatives of LOPSA in
some fashion, present to groups of people the reasons why those groups'
members (individuals) want to join LOPSA.
