I remember in the late 80's my dad had picked up a Texas Instruments TI-99/4a which was really my intro to computers. However, my first very own box was a Packard Bell I purchased for college in 1995.

The Unix systems for the college I attended, where I worked part time as a student sys admin.

well, Perl - though I do like to tackle some projects with C.
first sysadmin job, computer and os:
After I graduated, I worked full-time for a year at the school's computer department. We were a Mac OS and Windows NT shop and had about two dozen boxes.

probably a toss up between lsof and nmap

when I was growing up, I wanted to be:
A professional windsurfer.
If I wasn't a sysadmin, I'd be:
Living on a ranch tucked away in a remote corner of AZ.
when friends and family ask me to “fix” the computer or “fix the internet”, I say:
“Sure, what's the problem.” (I think “Could you open a ticket?”)

advice to a junior admin:
Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions - be afraid of not having at least tried to figure it own on your own first.
advice to a senior admin:
Don't settle in to a "comfort" zone with your work. Keep pushing yourself to learn.
